Weaving Solfege

At my weaving retreat (Fiber Daze – FB), we moved to different looms to make different pattern samples.

Some looms have four, six, or eight treadles or shafts.

On an eight-shaft loom, I found myself forming musical intervals according to the treading pattern.

1-3-5-7, 2-4-6-8-, 1-3-7, 2-6-8, etc.

Once I got the hand of it, I made a successful “Twill and Huck” pattern.

It didn’t make what I would call a true melody, but the intervals are still playing out in my mind.
